Welcome to my weblog. My name is Matt Plewes, I am from Hampton Roads Virginia U.S.A.. I am a martial arts researcher and teacher. I am also a missionary. I have been living in Japan for nearly a decade. I enjoy traveling and love history . I love both the mountains and the beach. In Japan I have mountains all around me and the beach is just 10 minutes away.
My wife is from Indonesia where her family lives and we own a home and love to visit. In Japan I own and manage a Language School and teach practical real world, non-sport self protection principles and skills, that I have accumilated over decades of study. I have nearly 40 years of martial arts study with 3 decades of formal research and study in the U.S.A. and Asia.
I have schools and / or students in Japan, U.S.A., United Kingdom, China and soon to be Singapore.
I am a proud parent of three daughters, aged 23, 11 and 9 months.
My eldest daughter Tracy just got married last May. My middle daughter is Sachi and our baby is Mattie.
I spent my childhood a quiet observer. I knew from an early age I would have an unconventional life. The typical things most people in my hometown got involved in, I didn't. I wanted different kinds of excitement. Most all my friends were learning to hunt, fish, and work on cars. I learned SCUBA, karate, sailing, magic and astronomy. I always wanted to explore and travel the world.
I decided not to dream my life, but to live my dreams. I believe the purpose of life is to have purpose in life. Now I enjoy teaching and helping people in need. I also operate an interfaith ministry in Japan.
